The inner city of Chemnitz has a lot to offer. From the Red Tower dated back to the time of the city founding up to the first (and the only one in Germany until now) glass department store Kaufhof evidences from various epochs of the towns history are to explore. Especially buildings erected in the Modern Style survived the aerial bombardments of the Second World War, not least because of their progressive building structure. Today they are beautifully restored and basis of the Chemnitz slogan “City of Modernity”, together with a large number of art treasures of the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz and the collection of the museum Gunzenhauser.
I would like to give an understanding of the history of these buildings, complemented by one or another anecdote, which we Chemnitz people or I personally experienced.

In the evening Chemnitz is at its most beautiful side. The most interesting buildings and even our “Nischel” are put in scene with lights and give the city an unique atmosphere. Sightseeing Tour 1

Duration: 1 hour, 1,5 hours or 2 hours
On a sightseeing tour by bus or car you get a good overview of the sights of Chemnitz. I guide you past the main attractions the inner city of Chemnitz has to offer as well as various, very differently characterised districts. Beside the castle district, our route will lead over the Kaßberg hill with its Gründerzeit quarter and buildings in the style of Art Noveau, through old and new industrial areas and along the main campus of our Chemnitz University of Technology. A lot of hard facts and tips for activities are added free of charge!

Sightseeing Tour 2
Additionally, to the Sightseeing Tour 1 we finish the tour with a visit of the former department store Tietz with the petrified forest and then, walk to the market square with the two impressive town halls.

Segway City Tour
Segway tour*

Duration: 2 hours
The inner city of Chemnitz is well to explore on a Segway tour. Besides highlights, such as the market square with the old and the new town hall, the Red Tower or the monument of Karl Marx, the route leads past historical industrial culture as well as through the castle district with the remains of the former monastery and along the Schlossteich (castle pond), a recreational area popular with locals and visitors today. A Segway city tour combines interesting facts about Chemnitz and the town´s history with the driving pleasure of riding a Segway.
